“Clear lots of ground for your tents! Make your tents large. Spread out! Think big! Use plenty of rope, drive the tent pegs deep. You’re going to need lots of elbow room for your growing family. You’re going to take over whole nations; you’re going to resettle abandoned cities. Don’t be afraid—you’re not going to be embarrassed. Don’t hold back—you’re not going to come up short.” Isaiah 54:2-6 (The Message)
One of my favorite memories from my childhood was camping as a family. We would pull up to the campsite and the first thing my dad would do was put up the big family tent. He bought a big tent to hold his family, the friends we picked up along the way and all the food so the racoons wouldn’t eat our dinner. That little trick we had to learn from experience! My dad would drive in these large metal stakes deep in the ground through the tent loop in order to protect everything that was going to be inside.
Today’s Scripture passage is all about vision which is different than what you see. Vision sees what things could be in the future. So often we walk by sight-the things we see currently and not by faith in the vision.
We need to have vision because it sees beyond where we are at. If there is no vision, no hope, then there is no faith—there is nothing for faith to create or to build on. We need to see beyond what it could be and believe for what God will do. Our vision needs to be so large that you need to clear some ground and put up a BIG tent. If God is going to do something BIG in our lives, He needs to know that we are prepared and have room for it. If you are believing God is about to do something big in your life, get your BIG tent ready.
I hope today’s devotional leaves you with a yearning to review your vision. Are you seeing beyond what it could be? Does this passage dig deep into the desires of your heart? It’s always exciting to know that God’s not finished with us yet and it is never too late to take a deep, hard look at the vision for the rest of our journey.
Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. Proverbs 29:18
Lord, I am grateful that You are a God of progress. Help me to have a clear vision for all You have for me. I want to set up my BIG tent and be ready for the BIG things you have prepared for me. Amen.
